Getting started with NEXICAPTURE
From installing to your first exported video.
## 1. Install
Download the installer from the download page, run it, and open NEXICAPTURE from the Start menu. It installs for your Windows user, so no administrator password is needed.
## 2. Make a recording
Click Record (or press F9). Choose Full screen, a window or an area, pick system sound and/or microphone, and press F9 to start. Press F9 again to stop and save. The recording opens in the editor.
## 3. Edit
- Move the playhead and press S to split, then Delete to remove a part.
- Open Text, Transitions, Filters, Audio or AI on the left to add them.
- Ctrl+S saves the project as a .nexiproj file. Ctrl+Z undoes.
## 4. Export
Click Export, choose a preset (YouTube, Shorts, TikTok, Reels, Facebook, WhatsApp, E-mail, GIF or MP3) and press Export. The file is saved next to your project.
## 5. Captions and AI tools
Open AI in the editor. Tools marked on your PC download their model the first time. Tools that need a key show where to add it under Manage API keys.
## Coming from LexiCapture?
NEXICAPTURE can open .lexiproj project files (they are imported; the original file is not changed) and Help › Import from LexiCapture… copies downloaded models, fonts and settings. API keys have to be added again.
## Something went wrong?
In the app, Help › Report a problem saves a report as a .zip (your API keys and Windows user name are removed). Send it to us through the contact page.

Is NEXICAPTURE free?
The current early-access build is free to download and use, for personal and commercial work. We have not announced any paid plan.
What does "early access" mean?
The app works — recording, editing and export were tested on Windows 11 — but some things are not finished: the installer is not code-signed yet, there are no automatic updates, and online services such as accounts are not available.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Recording, editing and exporting do not need the internet. Only optional AI model downloads and cloud tools that use your own API key go online.
Does it add a watermark?
No. NEXICAPTURE does not add a watermark to your videos.
Why does Windows show a SmartScreen warning?
The early-access installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows does not recognise the publisher. Check that the SHA-256 checksum matches the one on the download page, then choose More info → Run anyway.
